Army Vs Missouri Score - FORT WORTH, Texas — Missouri football knew the challenge it faced in the Army Bowl against Army: Drives abound.

The Tigers led by 16 points on four drives in the first half. Missouri had no such luck in the final two quarters.

Army continued to grind with its triple-option offense and stepped up on defense in the second half before giving the Tigers a late run. Missouri's only second-half score was a KK Chim:11 run by Brady Cook to give the Tigers a 22-21 lead.

The Tigers' defense couldn't stop Army, as Army's Cole Talley booted the game-winning 41-yard field goal and Amon G. for the Black Knights against the Tigers. 24-22 win at Carter Stadium.

"Congratulations to Army, they made the plays to win the game," Drinkwitz said after the loss. "... It's disappointing for our team, especially our seniors. It's a tough way to lose a game. We're proud of the way we fought."

Missouri was the first team to score on the alternate play when Brady Cook fumbled, faked a pitch to Elijah Young, caught the ball and ran through a seam in the Black Knights' defense for a 30-yard score.

Cook's run was Missouri's first kickoff-rushing touchdown in a nine-game streak, the last against Boston College in late September.

On Missouri's second drive, Drinkwitz went to the exact opposite end of the spectrum from Army: calling consecutive fast-paced plays. Chism caught the reception inside the Tigers' 1-yard line, making it six points.

MU couldn't punch it out and a 22-yard Harrison Mewis field goal temporarily took the lead by double digits.

Army's Christian Anderson showed his ability to throw the ball early in the second quarter, finding Tyrell Robinson for a 42-yard catch.

Anderson capped the drive himself on a 22-yard touchdown run, and he was distracted by the defense after a turnover by a substitute defender.

Missouri responded with a drive of its own when the Black Knights held the ball with 7:57 left to get within three points on a 23-yard Mavis field goal.

After an Army punt, Missouri ran out the rest of the first-half clock, including a third Mavis kick through the hoop to extend the lead to nine at halftime.

The Black Knights started the second half with the ball and St. Charles native Jacoby Buchanan capping a 10-yard touchdown run with 8:28 on the clock.

On that third quarter drive, Anderson left the game with an ankle injury and was replaced by Tyler Tyler. Anderson never returned.

Missouri again drove through midfield with its first drive of the second half, but was stopped on fourth down.

A decisive fourth down faced Army on its next drive: from the Missouri 14-yard line, nearly three yards were needed to complete the attempt. MU defender moved to stop the run. The Black Knights passed.

Army head coach Jeff Monken scored on a Tyler Rare Black Knights pass play to an open Brandon Walters in the end zone to give Army its first lead of the game.

Army recovered a Tigers fumble in the fourth quarter to end the drive on a Dawson Downing fumble.

Missouri's defense proceeded to give the ball back to the Tigers' offense with 5:17 left in the game. The only problem? A Black Knightspunt was pinned at MU's own 2-yard line.

MU had a three-and-out, but its defense stepped up again, giving the Tigers 2:44 left on the clock and getting the ball back with no timeouts.

Cook led an 83-yard drive, giving Missouri a late chism touchdown with 1:33 on the clock. The 2-point conversion failed, giving MU only a 1-point lead.

Army got into field-goal range on its final drive, setting up the game-winner from 41 yards to Cole Talley.

His layup went from 33 yards out, but Talley hit a shot as time expired, giving the Black Knights the win.

Missouri entered the Armory Bowl with significant losses due to withdrawals, transfers and injuries. Most importantly, according to Drinkwitz, the coach's decision — Tyler Bady didn't play.

MU defensive starters Martez Manuel and Akial Byers missed the game with injuries, and former TCU quarterback Shaun Robinson returned to the Tigers' starting lineup after missing the past few games with injuries.

"I thought (the team) must have really anticipated how low-handed we were playing," Drinkwitz said.

Missouri's tight end group was depleted after Nico Hee was injured and ruled out of the bowl game. No Tigers team had a previous collegiate catch that didn't qualify for the game. True freshman Ryan Horstkamp got the start.

The Tigers' abysmal run defense honestly did a good job of protecting the field against the Knights. Army was obviously very pass-heavy and they gained 211 yards. But when you consider he averaged 3.8 YPC, the Tigers' run defense, which has been terrible all season, can at least hang their hat on that. Tyson Riley was the only player who couldn't quite connect with him. But Riley only ran the ball six times. He held leading rusher Jacoby Buchanan to 3.2 YPC.

Mizzou outpaced Army in the running department as he ran to 5.3 YPC. Three of his players — Elijah Young, Dawson Downing and Brady Cook — all averaged at least 4.9 YPC. While he wasn't a 100-yard rusher, he still gained 195 yards on the ground. Cook threw for 238 yards and a touchdown to KK Chism.

A turnover and an interception on the drive killed Mizzou in the third quarter. He was also forced into that next drive. Meanwhile, Army scored back-to-back points early in the third followed by a turnover.

But Mizzou bounced back and scored with 1:11 left. On the final play, Army commanded a 51-yard drive in 8 plays with 1:11 left and won with a field goal at the horn. The Army Black Knights maintained their undefeated Army Bowl record with a 24-22 victory over the Missouri Tigers. Wednesday. Cole Talley kicked the game-winning 41-yard field goal as time expired to help Army finish the season at 9-4.

It was the Black Knights' fourth straight win in the Armed Forces Bowl and first against a Power Five team since 2017.

Army trailed 16-7 before coming back in the second half. The Black Knights relied on their refreshing triple-option rushing attack. Jacoby Buchanan was an absolute force with 68 yards and 21 carries.

From then on it was up to the Army Defense Forces to secure victory. The Black Knights recovered a fumble on the next possession and then forced the Tigers to punt. But Tigers don't go down easily.

Missouri quarterback Bradycook led the Tigers with an 83-yard drive with 1:11 left in the game. He was 7-9 for 72 yards and a touchdown to KK Chism on the ensuing possession.

But the Army showed their resilience and took to the field to set up a list of match winners. Missouri's key faceoff penalty kept the drive alive.

Missouri did not bring back Tyler Bady, who retired from the game in favor of preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft. Badie led the SEC and ranked third in Division I with 1,604 rushing yards this season.
