Best Buy Poughkeepsie - Last month, Best Buy announced plans to close five US stores over the next month. Of the five locations, one store is in New York. Best Buy confirmed plans to close stores in Syracuse as well as two stores in Virginia, one in Illinois and one in Massachusetts.
On Thursday, Best Buy announced it would lay off 5,000 full-time employees at the store. The company also confirmed that it had closed 40 stores over the past two years, about 20 each year, and hopes to close more in 2021.

"As part of our review process, we have closed approximately 20 large format locations in the last two years and expect to close a higher number this year," CEO Cory Barry told analysts Thursday. “We have also been working to reduce the average length of lease terms, which will continue to give us flexibility.”

Best Buy has 450 store leases expiring in the next three years and the company has no plans to renew all of them, reports CNN.
The company's online sales have increased and Best Buy plans to hire 2,000 part-timers. The company believes that 40 percent of all online sales in 2021 will come online, up from 19 percent in 2019.
Company officials say the latest changes, as well as future store closures, are due to Best Buy having to adjust to the way it operates, due to changes in sales.
"In addition to our physical stores, our operating model must evolve to meet the changing shopping behavior of our customers accelerated by the pandemic," said Barry, according to USA Today. “The sudden and permanent shift away from customers shopping more regularly and seamlessly across all of our channels has forced us to look at how we get our job done.”

But after that, the "interior" of every mall in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania will close at 8 p.m. Thursday too. The same goes for all the bowling alleys and amusement parks in the state.
Andrew Cuomo announced the move, along with the governors of three neighboring states, Wednesday. The measures expanded a ban on cinemas, gyms and casinos on Monday.
The wording of the ad leaves open the possibility that the anchor store or other store with a direct exit to the outside may remain open; Target, Dick's Sporting Goods and Best Buy previously announced reduced hours. At least two of Galleria's anchors, JC Penney and Macy's, have closed their stores across the country.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 2,382 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the new strain of coronavirus, in New York, including 20 in Dutchess County. Officials say social distancing, and staying home in general, will be key to slowing the spread of the disease.

Many mall stores have chosen to close along with other locations in the US. The list of chains includes American Eagle Outfitters, Bath and Body Works, DSW, Foot Locker, Hot Topic, Macy's, Sephora, and Victoria's Secret, among others.
Regal Cinema at the Galleria was closed as part of events on Monday. The closure also affected the roughly 10 restaurants in the mall that were still able to serve fast food.

Deciding to go out and buy a new computer is no small decision these days. For a really good computer, you can spend thousands of dollars to get one that lasts a long time. You can save money for months and finally, when you have had enough, head to your favorite online store and buy it. Imagine that after you buy it, you find out that the computer you bought is not new at all.
This is what happened to a Hudson Valley man just over a year ago. In August 2021, Eric was shopping at Best Buy in the Poughkeepsie Galleria and bought what he thought was a new Macbook Pro. After what he called "light use," the computer actually stopped working after just 13 months of use. A frustrated Eric took the computer to the Apple Store in Danbury CT to find out what was wrong with it and after they looked at it they told him the motherboard needed to be replaced.
The Apple Store quoted him $600 to fix the problem, and as they were explaining things, an employee pointed out that the date Eric's computer was purchased did not match their records. According to Apple, the computer was sold by Best Buy on December 20, 2020, seven and a half months before Eric bought it like new!

The next day, Eric returned to Poughkeepsie Best Buy where he made his initial purchase to speak with a manager. When he explained the situation to Best Buy employees, they told him the computer had most likely gone on sale in December 2020, but might be returned soon and sitting on a shelf until he bought it, according to Eric. Confused, Eric went on to say that he had tried and tried to get someone at Best Buy to rectify the situation without success.
After trying every other option, Eric decided he had to do something about it! He first called the New York State Attorney General to explain the situation and then did something I don't think many of us think of doing. He rented a billboard near the Poughkeepsie Galleria and covered it with a message that read, "Best Buy Poughkeepsie sells used Apple products like new!" Eric also includes a website at the bottom of the billboard, ChatedbyBest Buy.com.
After seeing the billboard on Route 9 the next day, I reached out to find out what the story was and Eric told us, "Excellent, Best Buy manager
